CHICAGO - DePaul freshman guard Eli Cain was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll Monday morning after leading the Blue Demons with 19.0 points per game in games against St. John's and Providence last week. This week's honor is the first of the season for the freshman.
In addition to averaging a team-best 19.0 points per game for the week, Cain shot .632 (12-19) from the field, .545 (6-11) from three-point range and .889 (8-9) from the free throw line. He also pulled down 3.5 rebounds in 30.0 minutes per game.
Cain totaled 16 points and four rebounds in 24 minutes against St. John's on Thursday night in the win at Allstate Arena. He followed that effort with 22 points and three rebounds at Providence on Saturday. He went 7-for-10 (.700) from the field against the Friars that included a 4-of-7 (.581) effort from three-point range. The 22 points are the fourth 20-point game of the season and the four three-pointers are a career high for the rookie.
Seton Hall's Isaiah Whitehead was named the league's Player of the Week while Marquette's Henry Ellenson was selected as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Cain was joined on the honor roll by Butler's Kellen Dunham, Ben Bentil from Providence, Desi Rodriguez from Seton Hall and Xavier's Myles Davis.
