Softball Defeats Louisiana-Monroe 8-0

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The DePaul softball team swept Louisiana-Monroe 8-0 in five innings in day two of the Easton Crimson Classic at Rhoads Stadium in Alabama.
DePaul (3-10) held the Warhawks to two hits the entire game. The victory snaps the Blue Demons' seven game losing streak.
Louisiana-Monroe (12-7) suffered its second loss of the Classic. The Warhawks recorded five errors in the game.
DePaul's run began in the first inning. Dylan Christensen singled through the left side but was out at third after Morgan Maize's double. After Marsha' hit a single to center, Maize advanced to third and then scored off a Louisiana-Monroe fielding error. Sabrina Kutcha followed with a RBI double to left field, scoring Pendilton. The Blue Demons' quick two runs was too much for ULM pitcher Casey Waterman, who was replaced by Paige Porter to close out the inning.
Porter continued to pitch for Louisiana-Monroe until Naomi Tellez hit her second home run of the season in the third inning. Tellez's homer extended DePaul's lead 3-0 and required another Warhawks pitching change as Katlynn Kaminiski replaced Porter. Kaminiski finished the game in the circle for Louisiana-Monroe.
DePaul scored two more runs in the third. Haydn Christensen notched her second hit of the game with a bunt to third. Morgan Greenwood came up to bat next and notched her first career double to center. After Angela Scalzitti subbed in as a pinch runner for Greenwood, Tellez hit a RBI single to left field, scoring Haydn Christensen and advancing Scalzitti to third. Scalzitti then scored on a wild pitch to put the Blue Demons up 5-0.
DePaul scored its last three runs in the fifth inning. Kutcha led off with a single up the middle. After Haydn Christensen lined out, Angela Scalzitti reached a fielding error. Cherelle Chambers then subbed in as a pinch runner for Kutcha and stole third. The senior scored on a throwing error as Scalzitti advanced to third. Tellez's single scored Scalzitti for a 7-0 lead. Tellez then stole second and advanced to third off a bunt from Gena Lenti. She scored the final run off a Warhawks throwing error.
Maize (3-5) pitched a complete game and collected her third win of the season. The senior held the Warhawks to two hits and struck out five.
With the win, DePaul tied the series record between the two teams 1-1. Yesterday, Louisiana-Monroe bested the Blue Demons 6-0.
DePaul is back this afternoon to take on No. 4/2 Alabama at 1:30 p.m. CT.
