Personal Records, Event Wins Highlight Home Meet

CHICAGO - It was a beautiful day at Lane Tech for the DePaul Invitational Saturday afternoon and the Blue Demons took advantage of the home venue by claiming 23 of a total 38 event victories.
Christine Mujica started off the DePaul Invitational for the Blue Demons by winning the women's 1500m with a PR time of 4:48.98. She was followed by Katerina Cirone and Paige Skorseth who also set new personal bests in the event. On the men's side Jake Pecorin and James Ryan finished 1-2 in the 1500m with Pecorin claiming first at 4:05.56.
Between the women's 100m hurdles and the men's 110m hurdles, DePaul earned five of the six top spots. Ariel Davis won the women's event with a DePaul Invitational meet record time of 14.64, while Evan Lowry took home the men's title at 15.23, a new PR.
Simone Carr and Sebastian Feyersinger swept the 400m events for the Blue Demons. Feyersinger posted a time of 48.07 and Carr finished in 57.09.
DePaul claimed both shot put events Saturday thanks to freshmen Emily Eller and Kyle Hedge. Eller threw a new meet record of 13.88 meters to win the women's side and Hedge posted a mark of 15.38 meters to earn the men's title.
Fighting off a strong wind, Tayler Whittler set a new DePaul Invitational meet record in the 100m dash. Whittler celebrated senior day by posting a result of 12.02 and earning first place. Whittler added a win in the 200m to her day after finishing at 24.70.
Scott Arsenault set a new meet record in the 800m after crossing the finish line first with a time of 1:52.30. He was joined by Mujica for a DePaul 800m sweep after she won her second event of the day at 2:24.24.
It was a strong day for Sarah Moss in the field events after the senior won discus and hammer throws. The senior posted season-best marks in the discus with a meet-record throw of 49.46 meters and the hammer at 47.55 meters (a personal best).
Jarvis Hill blew away the previous meet record in the men's 400m hurdles after he finished with a time of 54.49. Hill was followed by Lowry in second and Decker in third.
Courtney Tedeschi dominated the women's 5000m and recorded a time of 17:53.78 to win the event. She finished over a minute and 40 seconds faster than the runner-up.
Blake Thompson and Trevor Kintyhtt took the top two spots in the men's discus throw. Thompson finished the event with a toss of 51.30 meters, while Kintyhtt was right behind with 50.20 meters. In the hammer throw, Kintyhtt set a new personal best of 58.32 meters.
In the men's 200m, Feyersinger bested a five-year meet record by winning the event at 22.09. The previous mark was held by Tonderai Tomu in 2011.
Brian Mada is the first student-athlete to record a triple jump mark of 15 meters or further in DePaul Invitational history after the freshman jumped to an even 15 meters. Mada broke the old record from 2008 by .10 meters.
Caroline Muller was the lone competitor in the women's high jump and posted a new outdoor personal best of 1.60 meters. That mark is .02 meters higher than last week for the freshman.
The women's relay teams swept the day's events with a time of 46.41 in the 4x100 and a 4:03.40 in the 4x400. Saturday was the first time the Blue Demon women ran in the 4x100 this season.
DePaul's 4x400 team of Jeffrey Sattler, Chaz Bottoms, Arsenault and Hill won the event to close out the day's events. The team crossed the finish line in 3:17.94 for just the second time this year running the relay.
In the team standings, the Blue Demons placed in the top spots for both the women's and the men's standings. The DePaul women posted 108 points out of a possible 147, while the men edged out Valparaiso with a score of 99.
The Blue Demons turn their attention to the Indiana State Pacesetter Invitational on Saturday, April 23 for the next meet.
