Hammer Throws Fuel DePaul’s Start at Illinois State

Throws group leads day one

NORMAL, Ill. – DePaul track and field opened competition at the Joyce Morton-Keif Invite on Friday with a strong showing in the hammer throw, featuring a first-place finish and multiple personal bests on the women's side.

The Blue Demons turned in a strong performance in the men's hammer throw, led by Alex Bernstein's event-winning mark of 67.38m. Quinton Boyd followed with a fifth-place throw of 51.36m, while Jaiden Gary placed sixth at 51.26m. Sergio Ayala rounded out the group in 12th with a mark of 42.84m.

On the women's side, Laila Richardson led the group with a seventh-place finish and a personal-best mark of 47.04m. Lauren Drew also recorded a personal best at 45.11m to place 11th. Olivia Austin added a 12th-place mark of 44.78m, while Sydney Kube finished 13th with a throw of 41.91m.
