CHICAGO - The NCAA released the latest Academic Progress Rate report with six DePaul programs posting multi-year rates of 1000. Women's basketball, men’s cross country, men’s golf, softball, women's tennis and volleyball each recorded perfect rates while 11 of 13 programs at DePaul surpassed the NCAA overall APR of 979.
The women’s tennis program posted a perfect rate for the 11th straight year while men’s golf achieved the perfect score of 1000 for the 10th time in 11 years. Women’s basketball held a 1000 APR for the sixth consecutive year and seventh time overall. Men’s cross country achieved the highest score for the third straight time while softball posted its second consecutive perfect score and its seventh overall. The volleyball program reached the 1000 APR mark for the first time.
Women’s soccer registered a mark of 997 followed by men’s tennis (993), women’s cross country (992), women’s track and field (991), men’s soccer (989), men’s track and field (978) and men’s basketball (943).
Every Division I sports team calculates its APR each academic year with student-athletes earning one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating every academic term. Teams scoring below certain thresholds can face sanctions, such as scholarship losses and restrictions on playing season and practice time. In order to compete in the 2016-17 postseason, teams must achieve either a 930 four-year APR.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in each sport. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2011-2012, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.
Last week, six DePaul programs were recognized with Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA for having multi-year Academic Performance Rate (APR) scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. Women's basketball, men's cross country, men's golf, softball, women's tennis and volleyball were all recognized by the NCAA.
