CHICAGO - The rugged road test for DePaul women's soccer continues this weekend with matches on Friday and Sunday at the Army West Point Fall Classic in West Point, N.Y.
The Blue Demons open with Hofstra (3-1-0) on Friday at the Fall Classic and conclude with a Sunday showdown against the host Black Knights (0-4-0).
Beginning with last Sunday's game at William and Mary, DePaul (0-2-1) encounters a stretch of six consecutive road games culminating with a Sept. 16 match at Western Michigan. Coach Erin Chastain's side doesn't return to Wish Field until a Sept. 21 matchup against North Side rival Loyola.
So far, the Blue Demons offense has been led by seniors as Abby Reed, Kelli Hubly and Taylor Schissler who have each scored a goal in the early season.
Hofstra has a pair of 1-0 victories over Buffalo and Columbia and a 2-0 decision over Boston. The Pride's lone setback came to Penn State, 3-1. Jill Mulholland paces the team with three goals and one assist, including a pair of game-winning shots. Noriana Radwan has two goals and one game-winner.
Army has a 2-0 loss to Albany and 1-0 defeats to Seton Hall, Syracuse and Harvard.
Notes
- Friday's match will be the first meeting between the Blue Demons and Hofstra, which is receiving votes in this week's NSCAA Division I National Poll.
- In last year's first-ever meeting with Army, DePaul prevailed 3-0 on Sept. 4 at Wish Field as Alexa Ben scored 90 seconds into the match. Madeline Frick and Franny Cerny added insurance scores as the Blue Demons extended the nation's longest regular-season undefeated streak to 23 games.
- Army coach Marcia McDermott is a mentor and good friend to Chastain. While McDermott was the head coach at Northwestern (1994-2000), she gave Chastain her first job as an assistant coach.
- Three of DePaul's transfer players---Reed (Indiana State), Hubly (Kentucky) and Schissler (Ohio State)---have accounted for all the scoring so far this season.
- Only a junior, Ben needs nine assists to surpass Julianne Sitch's all-time DePaul career record of 26. Ben has 18 in her first two seasons.
- Reed is third all-time in career goals with 18 while Ben is fourth in career points at 44---one behind Tara Strickland (2007-10).
