Women's Tennis Announces 2016-17 Schedule

CHICAGO - The DePaul University women's tennis team released its schedule for the 2016-17 season. The Blue Demons kick of their season next weekend in Peoria, Illinois at the Bradley Invitational Sept. 23-25.
The Bradley Invitational is the first of six tournaments for the team's fall slate. The Blue Demons head up to Evanston, Ill. Sept. 30-Oct. 2 to take part in the Wildcat Invite hosted by Northwestern. Oct. 8-9, Yuliya Shupenia travels to Los Angeles to compete among the nation's elite at the All-American Championships. Shupenia will compete in the singles qualifying bracket and is ranked No. 66 in the country.
DePaul travels to East Lansing, Mich. Oct. 20-25 for the ITA Midwest Regional and then travels south for the Roberta Allison Open in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Oct. 28-29.
The Blue Demons return to Michigan to close out their fall campaign at the WMU Challenge in Kalamazoo Nov. 4-6.
DePaul begins its spring slate at the Michigan Invite Jan. 14-16 in Ann Arbor before hosting its first match of the season against Harvard on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. Central time. Harvard marks the first of seven home matches for the Blue Demons this season.
DePaul travels to Florida and Minnesota next for two dual tournaments. In Gainesville, Fla., DePaul partakes in the ITA Indoor Qualifier Jan. 28-29. The Blue Demons face the Gators on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. and FIU or USF on Sunday.
The Blue Demons then travel north for the Gopher Ice Volleys tournament hosted by Minnesota Feb. 4-5. Participating teams besides DePaul and the Gophers include Dartmouth and Washington St.
DePaul takes on its first BIG EAST opponent Sunday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. on its home court against St. John's. The Blue Demons don't play another BIG EAST team until Saturday, Apr. 1 at 3 p.m. when the squad welcomes defending BIG EAST Conference Champions, Xavier.
The Blue Demons face five other BIG EAST teams in addition to the Red Storm and Musketeers. DePaul travels to Villanova (Apr. 7) and Georgetown (Apr. 8), welcomes Butler (Apr. 15) and travels to Marquette (Apr. 21).
DePaul closes out its regular season against Seton Hall at home on Saturday, Apr. 22 at 3 p.m.
The BIG EAST Championship takes place Apr. 27-30 in Cayce, S.C.
Last season, the Blue Demons were the tournament runner-ups.
DePaul returns five players from last years squad, including a graduate senior, a senior, junior and two sophomores. The team welcomes three newcomers, including two freshmen and a junior transfer.
All home matches are played at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness in Chicago located at 1320 W. Fullerton Ave. The complex boasts eight indoor tennis courts and is situated right in Lincoln Park.
