
Megally Leads Men's Soccer Past Northwestern 2-1

EVANSTON, Ill. - These Blue Demons certainly maintained their early momentum Wednesday night at Martin Stadium.
Behind goals from Simon Megally and Zach El-Shafei, DePaul knocked off Northwestern 2-1 in nonconference action.
The Blue Demons are now 5-2-2 on the season have five wins and a tie in their last seven matches.
Megally opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a shot into the top corner off a cross from Hans Wustling. That was his fifth goal of the season.
In the 77th minute, El-Shafei culminated a counterattack taking a pass from Megally and finishing into the left corner from two yards outside the box.
Northwestern (1-6-1) narrowed the gap in the 78th minute on Nathan Dearth's rebound shot from point-blank range.
But goalkeeper Quentin Low (six saves) and a back line featuring Caleb Pothast, Max de Bruijne, Anton Sell and Sasa Labovic made the lead hold up.
Next up is a daunting challenge when No. 12/20 Creighton comes to Wish Field on Saturday.

- Northwestern outshot DePaul 17-12 and had a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. The Wildcats came away with a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.
- Megally led his team with six shots and three shots on goal. On the season, he tops DePaul with five goals and three assists.
- The Blue Demons have gone 9-5-3 since their 1-10 start in 2015.
- Talented freshman forward El Shafei scored his first collegiate goal.
- Wustling, a junior, has 15 career assists which is sixth best all-time in program history.
- The last time DePaul had four wins this early in the season was 2007, and that Blue Demon side finished 12-8-0.
