Blue Demons Finish Successful First Day at Wildcat Invite

EVANSTON, Ill. - The DePaul women's tennis team recorded impressive performances on the first day of the Wildcat Invitational in Evanston on Friday. The Blue Demons finished day one of the three-day event with an overall 7-1 record on the courts of the Vandy Christie Tennis Center and Combe Tennis Center.
Teams competed in two rounds of doubles and a round of singles for the day.
Notably, Aspasia Avgeri and Marina Cozac won all of their matches in singles and doubles. The two teamed up in the B Draw of the doubles bracket to defeat Jeannie Nash and Hayden Siegfried of Notre Dame 6-1 and then Montana Crawford and Taylor Tamblyn of Iowa 6-4.
In singles, Avgeri defeated Ani Gogvadze from Eastern Michigan 6-3, 7-5 in the Purple Draw. Cozac bested Melika Leblanc of UIC 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the Green Draw.
Ana Vladutu and Patricia Lancranjan made their season debuts. In doubles, the two won both matches in the A Draw. The tandem defeated Melika LeBlanc and Georgie Sanders from UIC 7-5 and Adorabol Huckleby and Carin Ruenfelt from Iowa 6-0.
Milica Tesic only competed in singles action for the Blue Demons. She won her match 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 against Bianaca Zulu from UIC in the Red Draw.
Competition resumes Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Matches will be played at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. In case of inclement weather, matches will be moved indoors at Combe Tennis Center.
