New Mexico State Defeats Softball 8-1

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - DePaul softball dropped its second game at the Troy Cox Classic to host New Mexico State 8-1 on Friday evening.
Kennedy Garcia suffered the loss in the circle for DePaul (2-5). Samaria Diaz earned the win for New Mexico State (4-1).
New Mexico led the way from the start, notching two runs in the bottom of the first. With two outs and a runner on second, Fahren Glackin hit a double to center to score the runner. Merina Ili followed suit with another double to score Glackin for the second run.
The Aggies run in the second inning came off a leadoff homer from Kaitlyn Rubio to put the score 3-0.
Haydn Christensen recorded DePaul's lone run of the game in the top of the fourth. The junior hit her first collegiate home run over the left field fence to put the Blue Demons on the board.
New Mexico State responded with another run in the bottom of the fourth. After Garcia struck out her first batter, she walked Rachel Rodriguez who advanced to second off a ground out. Rodriguez reached third and then home following singles from the Aggies next two batters.
Krista Dalgarn replaced Garcia in the circle to start the sixth inning. The Aggies scored their final four runs in the inning to finish the game 8-1. Dalgarn struck out one and allowed four earned runs on five hits in the lone inning she pitched.
Garcia (1-2) finished the game with two strikeouts and a walk in five innings pitched. She faced 26 batters while allowing four earned runs on nine hits.
Kayla Green pitched in relief for Diaz in the final three innings. She struck out one in the nine batters she faced.
The Blue Demons return to the Troy Cox Classic tomorrow for two games at the New Mexico State Softball Complex. They face Northern Colorado at 10 a.m. and #15/14 Tennessee at 3 p.m. CT. Both games will have live stats. Links are available on DePaul softball's schedule.
