Softball Prevails Over Portland State

LAS VEGAS - DePaul softball defeated Portland State 7-4 under the Friday night lights of Eller Media Stadium to record its first victory at the Rebel Classic.
DePaul's (10-8) Krista Dalgarn went 3-for-4 at the plate and recorded two RBI to lead the Blue Demons. Morgan Greenwood led the team with two runs and added two hits.
Missy Zoch pitched a complete game and clinched her fifth win in the circle. She struck out two, walked one and allowed 10 hits out of the 31 batters she faced.
Emma Detamore pitched all seven innings for Portland State (1-16) and suffered her ninth loss of the season.
After a scoreless two innings, DePaul marked the board first with two runs in the top of the third. Micah Fitzgerald led off the inning with a single to left field. Following, Dylan Christensen connected for a two-run home run over the right field fence. The homer marks Christensen's fourth of the season.
Portland State surged ahead in the bottom of the fourth with three runs. With the Vikings first two batters on first and third, Alexis Morrison singled to right field as the runner on third ran home for an unearned run. The Vikings last two runs of the came with the bases loaded and pinch hitter Riley Casper knocking a double to left field to score in two runners.
The Blue Demons responded with three runs in the fifth to regain their lead for good. With two outs and pinch runner Ana Greik on second and Haydn Christensen on first, Greenwood singled to left field to score Greik. Haydn Christensen and Greenwood then recorded DePaul's final two runs of the inning off a Portland State Error.
The Vikings added a run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Blue Demons tallied two more in top of the seventh.
In the seventh with two outs and runners on first and second, Dalgarn doubled to right field for the runners to plate home for a final 7-4 score.
DePaul returns to Eller Media Stadium for its final game at the Rebel Classic on Saturday, March 11. The Blue Demons take on Southern Illinois at 3:30 p.m. CT.
