Alexis Houge responsible for DePaul's lone run

STORRS, Conn. -- DePaul softball fell 10-1 in a five-inning contest to UConn Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Burrill Family Field. The Huskies used a six-run second inning to complete the sweep, improving to 13-22 overall and 8-3 in BIG EAST play, while the Blue Demons dropped to 12-22 and 3-9 in league action.

DePaul was limited to three hits in the contest, with Alexis Houge, Jolie Adams and Maya Wondaal accounting for the offense. Houge drove in the lone run in the third inning, scoring Wondaal, who reached on a leadoff double.

Senior right-hander Bella Nigey got the start in the circle, going 1.2 innings while allowing seven runs on seven hits. Kelly Greene entered in relief and walked three consecutive batters before making way for Hannah Messer, who covered the final 2.2 innings. Nigey was charged with the loss and fell to 3-6 on the season.

How It Happened
UConn struck first with a two-run home run in the opening inning after a one-out double, taking a 2-0 lead.

The Huskies broke the game open in the second, stringing together a two-out rally that featured five hits, including two for extra bases, along with three walks to build an 8-0 advantage.

In the third, Wondaal recorded her second double of the season to give DePaul its first runner in scoring position. She advanced on a flyout to right field before Houge brought her home with a base hit to cut the deficit to 8-1.

UConn sealed the run-rule victory in the fifth inning with its second home run of the day, securing the 10-1 final.
