Softball Defeats Loyola Marymount 12-7

LOS ANGELES - After DePaul softball's game against Loyola Marymount was postponed Saturday due to darkness, the Blue Demons resumed action on Sunday to defeat the Lions 12-7 on Smith Field.
DePaul (13-10) was lead by Nicole Pihl who went 2-for-3 at the plate and recorded two runs and two RBI. Morgan Greenwood added three hits and a RBI, while three other Blue Demons recorded multiple runs.
Missy Zoch pitched a complete game to earn her sixth win in the circle. She struck out six, walked three and allowed five earned runs on six hits.
Andy Wellins suffered the loss for Loyola Marymount (10-16).
Early scoring was prevalent on both sides of the dugout to start the game. DePaul notched two runs, while Loyola Marymount recorded four in the first inning.
DePaul's first run came with one out and Haydn Christensen on first and Dylan Christensen on second. A RBI single from Pihl plated Dylan Christensen home and allowed Haydn Christensen to reach third. Megan Leyva followed Pihl's lead at the next bat, hitting a single to score Haydn Christensen.
Loyola Marymount's first two batters reached base to begin its offensive surge in the first inning. A DePaul error following a hit from Amanda Dirks plated the Lions first run. A double from Alicia Brown followed to score the other runner. Dirks scored off another Blue Demon error, while Brown notched LMU's fourth run off a sacrifice hit from Brooke Christensen.
The Blue Demons regained their lead in the top of the third with three runs. With Micah Fitzgerald on second and Haydn Christensen on first, Pihl doubled to left center, scoring Fitzgerald. A double from Jessica Cothern plated Haydn Christensen and Pihl to put DePaul up 5-4.
DePaul added three more runs in the top of the fourth. With Dylan Christensen, Haydn Christensen and Pihl on base, Leyva hit a ground out to score Dylan Christensen. A Loyola Marymount fielding error allowed Haydn Christensen to score on the same play, extending the Blue Demons lead 7-4.
The Lions added a run in the bottom of the fourth to pull within two before the game was postponed for the night.
With play resuming in the fifth inning on Sunday, Loyola Marymount tied it up 7-7 with two runs.
The Blue Demons responded with five runs in the sixth for the final 12-7 mark. With one out and Fitzgerald, Pihl and Leyva on base, a wild pitched scored Fitzgerald. The Lions replaced Wellins in the circle with Maddie Rawl only to have Brianna Viles hit a single to left center, scoring Pihl and Leyva. Rawl went on to walk Cothern who was replaced by Kayla Landwehrmier on base. Greenwood then singled off a Rawl to score Viles, which resulted in another LMU pitching change. Alysia Rodriguez's sacrifice hit at the next at bat plated Landwehrmier home for the final run.
