Softball Falls to Sacramento State

LOS ANGELES - DePaul softball dropped its final game at the Loyola Marymount Tournament 10-1 to Sacramento State on Sunday afternoon at Smith Field.
The Blue Demons (13-11) were held to just three hits in the game. Dylan Christensen, Micah Fitzgerald and Megan Leyva recorded the stat. Leyva tallied DePaul's lone run of the game.
Kennedy Garcia suffered her fourth loss in the circle for DePaul. She struck out four, walked one and allowed six earned runs on 10 hits out of the 26 batters she faced.
Celina Matthias earned the win for the Hornets (10-12-1).
DePaul got on board first in the bottom of the second courtesy of a solo home run from Leyva. The homer marks her fifth of the season.
After a scoreless third inning, Sacramento State notched two runs in the fourth. Suzy Brookshire led off the inning with a solo home run. The Hornets other run was scored off a DePaul fielding error.
Sacramento State added five runs in the top of the fifth to pull ahead 7-1.
Krista Dalgarn replaced Garcia in the circle in the top of the sixth, but the Hornets recorded three runs off the freshman pitcher for the final 10-1 score. With two outs and runners on first and second, Brookshire added a triple to her resume, scoring the two on base home. She then tallied a the final run off a ground out from Mo Spieth.
Dalgarn finished the game with a walk and three earned runs on three hits in the lone inning she pitched.
DePaul finished 2-3 overall at its final tournament of the season. Up next, the Blue Demons travel to San Diego for a game on Tuesday, March 21 at 1:30 p.m. CT against the Toreros. Live stats will be available for the game. Visit DePaul softball's schedule page for the links.
