ROCK HILL, S.C. - DePaul softball wrapped up day two of the Winthrop Invitational with a 3-0 victory over the host team on Saturday evening at Terry Field.
Scoring in the first and seventh innings proved to be the winning formula for the Blue Demons (8-6).
Alysia Rodriguez finished the game with two hits and a run. Three other Blue Demons notched a hit.
Kennedy Garcia recorded her fourth win in the circle for DePaul. She pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits in the process. She struck out three and walked one in the 24 batters she faced.
Kiley Majette suffered the loss for the Eagles (11-9).
DePaul's first two runs came in the top of the first. With Dylan Christensen, Micah Fitzgerald and Megan Leyva loading the bases right away, Majette struck out her next batter. A wild pitch on the next play allowed Dylan Christensen to score the first run. Fitzgerald scored the second run, her seventh of the season, off an error by the Eagles catcher.
The Blue Demons final run in the top of the seventh was scored by Rodriguez. The sophomore rounded the bases after notching a single, advancing to second after walk and reaching third off a groundout. A sacrifice fly from Dylan Christensen scored Rodriguez home for the 3-0 mark.
DePaul returns to take on Winthrop one more time on Sunday morning to close out its time at the Winthrop Invitational. The teams begin play at 9 a.m. CT. Live stats will be available for the game and can be accessed on the DePaul softball schedule page.
