Blue Demons Head West to Beach Invitational

CHICAGO ââ'¬" After a short trip in-state last weekend, the DePaul track & field teams head to Long Beach, Calif. for the Beach Invitational on Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15.
Events at the Beach Invitational for the Blue Demons begin at 11 a.m. CT on Friday with the men's hammer throw. The meet picks back up on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT. DePaul faces fellow BIG EAST teams Marquette and Xavier this weekend.
In the 400m, six DePaul student-athletes take their spots against the field, three each for men and women. Laura Edwards leads the way for the Blue Demons with a time of 56.40, set two weeks ago at the Joey Haines Invitational. Edwards is joined by Simone Carr and Rutendo Chimbaru. For the men, Sebastian Feyersinger is the top DePaul runner at 48.47 with Chaz Bottoms and Mac Melto to follow.
The long jump features five Blue Demons with chances to climb up the BIG EAST leaderboards. Jade Nolan is second in the BIG EAST with her season-best distance of 5.75 meters, while Brian Mada is fourth in the conference at 6.94 meters. Both are scheduled to compete this weekend alongside Gabrielle Howard, Sydnee Matthew and Xavier Taylor.
After claiming the BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week, Dylan Marshall takes her spot in the women's javelin throw. Marshall, the conference leader in the event, reached a distance of 43.39 meters at Benedictine last week and ranks 51st in the region.
Trevor Kintyhtt ranks in the top 48 of the West in both the discus and the hammer throws. The senior thrower is set to compete in both events this weekend. Kintyhtt currently sits 30th in the discus and 44th in the hammer. Kyle Hedge and Isaac Jimenez join Kintyhtt in the men's discus.
In the distance events, DePaul has representatives for both the 3000m steeplechase and 5000m events. In the 5000m, Paige Skorseth for the women and Jake Pecorin for the men are set to run in the event. The men's 3000m steeplechase features Alex Campanella and Daniel Peterson.
Ariel Davis, Alexia Harvey and Matthew compete in the 100m hurdles for DePaul this weekend. Davis is third in the conference after recording a time of 14.37 two weekends ago. Harvey is right behind in fourth with a time of 14.50. On the men's side, BIG EAST leader Kyle Decker runs in the 110m hurdles for the Blue Demons.
