Track and Field Kicks Off Chicagoland with Top Five Throws

Blue Demons open Elmhurst meet in Wheaton
WHEATON, Ill. – DePaul track and field opened the Chicagoland Championships on Thursday with the throws group leading the charge at Lawson Field, collecting a pair of second-place finishes and several top-10 results in both the men's and women's competitions.
Quinton Boyd led the way on the men's side with a third-place finish in the hammer throw at 55.32m. Sergio Ayala added an eighth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 14.42m.
On the women's side, Laila Richardson earned a runner-up finish in the hammer throw at 47.13m, edging her previous personal best from earlier this season, with Olivia Austin close behind in fourth and Sydney Kube rounding out the top-10 with 41.12m.
In the discus, Lauren Drew took second place at 40.63m, while Olivia Santos finished fifth with 39.22m. Santos also led the Blue Demons in the shot put with a mark of 12.29m, followed by Richardson in seventh (11.98m) and Katina Maclin in eighth (11.71m).
