Feyersinger, Kintyhtt Claim Wins at Illinois Twilight

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The DePaul track & field team had a successful Saturday at the Illinois Twilight with three event wins and plenty of top-five performances.
Trevor Kintyhtt had a career evening in the men's hammer throw to both set a personal record in the event and win it. The senior surpassed 60 meters in the event for the first time in his collegiate career on his fourth attempt at 60.26 meters. Kintyhtt bested that on his next time up with a toss of 60.31 meters to finish in the top position. Coming into the weekend, that distance would rank 38th in the West.
Kintyhtt's successful night continued when he won the discus throw with a winning toss of 51.34 meters on his second attempt. Dominic Marshall and Kyle Hedge each earned spots in the top-six finishers. Marshall took fourth after setting a personal record at 44.96 meters. Hedge finished sixth with a throw of 44.56 meters.
The final standings in the men's 400m had three Blue Demons in the top-six spots. Sebastian Feyersinger had the best time of the day at 48.14 to win the event by .17 seconds. The junior was joined by Chaz Bottoms (fifth, 49.61) and Mac Melto (sixth, 49.68) near the top of the leaderboard.
Gabrielle Howard posted a season-best mark in the women's triple jump when she hit a mark of 11.84 meters. The mark was .26 meters better than her previous best and earned her a runner-up finish in the event.
Jarvis Hill was just .04 seconds off of the event winner in the men's 400m hurdles. Hill crossed the finish line at 54.26 to register a season-best time in the event and finish second overall.
Dylan Marshall claimed a runner-up finish in the women's javelin when she reached 41.46 meters on her fifth attempt. Saturday marked the third time Marshall has thrown 40 meters or better and placed first or second in the event.
Sprinters Laura Edwards and Jessica Watkins led the Blue Demons in the women's 200m dash with finishes of fourth and sixth, respectively. Edwards cracked the 25-second mark for the first time in her collegiate career when she crossed the finish line at 24.88. Watkins was right behind at 25.03.
Scott Midgett and Xavier Taylor both put up season-best heights in the men's high jump when the Blue Demon pair cleared 1.85 meters. For Taylor, that height is a personal record. The duo finished tied for fifth after that result. Later in the evening, Taylor placed sixth in the men's triple jump when he reached a mark of 14.02 meters on his first attempt.
Rebecca Chouinard continued a stellar outdoor season after hitting 52.36 meters in the women's hammer throw. The freshman earned a podium spot with that toss, finishing third overall. Teammate Corinne Franz placed in the top ten with a PR throw of 48.56 meters, over three meters further than her previous best.
Caroline Muller tied for fifth in the women's high jump when she cleared 1.59 meters on her second attempt. The sophomore has now cleared at 1.59 meters three times this season.
Jake Pecorin earned a top-five finish in the men's 1500m when he crossed the finish line at 4:05.31. Pecorin outran 18 other competitors in the event.
Sydnee Matthew posted three attempts in the women's long jump of over 5.30 meters and finished sixth overall out of 21 jumpers. Matthew recorded 5.42 meters on her first attempt of the night.
In the team standings, the Blue Demon men finished fifth and higher than BIG EAST members Marquette and Butler. On the women's side, DePaul placed eighth out of 13 teams, including Butler.
The Blue Demons have one more meet of the regular season when they head to the Lenny Lyles-Clarke Wood Invitational in Louisville, Ky. on April 28 and 29.
