Kintyhtt and Top Marks Highlight Day One of Championships

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Day one of the BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships concluded Friday at Villanova for DePaul with Trevor Kintyhtt being crowned a conference champion and both teams recording top preliminary marks.
Kintyhtt won his eighth career BIG EAST event in style by setting a personal record in the hammer throw with a toss of 62.61 meters. Heading into today's meet, that mark ranks 27th in the West. Kintyhtt was followed by Dominic Marshall at 53.64 meters who bested his previous personal record by over six meters.
DePaul recorded the two fastest times in the women's 100m dash after Shayna Nwokenkwo and Jessica Watkins earned the top spots in the prelims. Nwokenkwo led all sprinters with a time of 11.87, tying a PR, and Watkins followed at 12.04.
Kyle Decker took the first step in defending his 110m hurdle title by registering the top time in the prelims. Decker was the only student-athlete to crack the 15-second mark at 14.99. Decker will be joined by Jarvis Hill, Evan Lowry and Babajide Bamgbose in Saturday's final. Hill recorded the best time in the 400m hurdles prelims at 53.76, while Decker was third at 55.46.
Gabrielle Howard made the podium in the women's long jump when she reached a personal best distance of 5.78 meters to finish second overall. She was joined by Jade Nolan (5.69m, fourth) and Sydnee Matthew (5.53m, fifth) in the top five.
Sebastian Feyersinger posted the second-best time of the 200m prelims when he crossed the finish line at 21.52. The junior set a personal record and was just .01 off the top time in the event. Feyersinger also qualified in the 400m alongside Chaz Bottoms.
Rebecca Chouinard earned a runner-up finish in her first BIG EAST Outdoor Championship for the hammer throw. The freshman hit a distance of 52.99 meters, missing the top spot by .80 meters.
Xavier Taylor earned a podium finish in the men's long jump when he finished at 7.05 meters. That mark was .40 meters further than his previous personal best. Taylor also matched his personal best in the men's high jump when he jumped over 1.85 meters. The freshman took fourth in the event, while senior Scott Midgett placed sixth at 1.80 meters.
Alexia Harvey, Sydnee Matthew and Kaitlen Crawford all qualified for the final of the 100m hurdles. Harvey led the group with a time of 13.97, a non-wind aided personal record. Crawford also qualified for tomorrow's 400m hurdles final with a time of 1:04.03.
Alex Campanella knocked almost 13 seconds off his PR in the men's 3000m steeplechase to finish fourth in the event. The senior finished at 9:11.99 and earned a top-five finish in the event for the third time this year.
Watkins, Laura Edwards and Simone Carr all qualified for the women's 200m dash on Friday. Watkins had the top time of the group at 24.83 to finish fifth in the prelims. Edwards also claimed a spot in the women's 400m final.
Freshmen Adam Nelson and Joshua Pearson each finished in the top eight of the men's 100m dash to qualify for Saturday's final. Nelson placed sixth in the prelims with a time of 10.88.
After the first day of competition, the men's team is second in the team standings with 51 points after seven events. DePaul's women's team is currently third with 35 points after six events.
Events pick back up on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT. with the discus, shot put and triple jump events. Day two of the BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be streamed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
