Softball Takes Game One at Georgetown 5-3

WASHINGTON, D.C. - DePaul softball defeated Georgetown 5-3 in its first game of the Sunday doubleheader at Guy Mason Field.
DePaul's (23-17, 8-5 BIG EAST) Haydn Christensen went 2-for-2 at the plate and notched two RBI to lead the squad.
Missy Zoch pitched a complete game in her 11th win of the season. She struck out seven and allowed three earned runs on three hits in the 32 batters she faced.
Anna Brooks Pacha suffered the loss in the circle for Georgetown (11-28, 4-9 BIG EAST).
Georgetown got on the board with a run in the first inning. Mallory Belknap led off with a single and then scored off Hoya double.
The Blue Demons tied it up in the second with bases loaded and one out. Pacha hit Nicole Pihl with a pitch to advance all the runners on base.
Pinch runner Celeste Franco notched DePaul's second run in the third inning. With two outs and Morgan Greenwood on second and Franco on third, a Georgetown error scored Franco home.
The Hoyas tied the game again with a run in the fourth, but DePaul tacked on another run in the fifth. With one out and bases loaded, Haydn Christensen hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Jessica Cothern from third.
Georgetown came back with a run in the sixth, but the Blue Demons responded with two runs in the top of the seventh for the final 5-2 mark. Haydn Christensen notched a RBI single with one out and pinch runner Erin Andris on third and Rodriguez on second. Haydn Christensen's second hit of the game plated Andris home. Rodriguez scored the following play after Micah Fitzgerald grounded out to the Hoyas shortstop.
Game two between the two teams will begin this afternoon.
