Softball Falls 8-2 in Game Two at Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. - DePaul softball fell 8-2 in game two to Villanova on Saturday afternoon at the Villanova Softball Complex.
DePaul's (24-20, 9-6 BIG EAST) Micah Fitzgerald led the team with three hits and a run. Jessica Cothern, Dylan Christensen and Morgan Greenwood also tallied two hits in the Blue Demons first BIG EAST series loss since Seton Hall at the beginning of April.
Missy Zoch suffered the loss in the circle. She struck out and walked five and allowed three earned runs (five unearned) on eight hits.
Caitlyn Dickman earned the win for Villanova (30-17, 11-6 BIG EAST).
DePaul got on board first in the top of the first inning. Fitzgerald led off with a double to center and then scored off a single from Cothern.
Natalia Segovia hit a solo homer in the bottom of the second to tie the game 1-1.
The Wildcats pulled ahead with three more runs in the third. With one out and and a runner on third and first, Nikki Alden hit a RBI single to plate the Wildcat runner from third home. Bases were loaded following a DePaul error as Zoch walked Megan Ruiz for Lauren Herschberg to notch the second run of the inning. Alden then went on to score the third run off a ground out.
After Villanova scored another run in the fourth, DePaul tallied its second in the top of the fifth, courtesy of another solo home run from Nicole Pihl. The homer marked her third of the day and 13th of the season.
The Wildcats recorded three more runs in the sixth for the final 8-2 score.
