VILLANOVA, Pa. - DePaul softball dropped its first game of three at Villanova 7-4 on Saturday afternoon at the Villanova Softball Complex.
Three of DePaul's (24-19, 9-5 BIG EAST) four runs came off of homers. Nicole Pihl notched two in the contest. She finished two-for-two at the plate with two RBI.
Kennedy Garcia (9-8) suffered the loss in the circle. She pitched for five innings, striking out four and allowing six earned runs (one unearned) on nine hits.
Krista Dalgarn replaced Garcia in the sixth inning. She faced three batters.

Villanova struck first with two runs in the bottom of the second, but home runs in the top of third from Haydn Christensen and Pihl tied the game 2-2.
The tie was short lived, as the Wildcats notched two more runs in the bottom of the third. With one out and runners on second and third, a DePaul error allowed the runner from third to score. Megan Ruiz would then single to plate the other Wildcat runner home.
In the top of the fourth with one out and Brianna Viles on base, Haydn Christensen hit a RBI double to right field, scoring Viles.
Villanova lengthened its lead in the fifth with its three final runs of the game. With one out and bases loaded, Ruiz doubled down the left field line to plate the runners on second and third home. Caroline Jones followed with a sacrifice fly to right field for Becky Ducar to tally the seventh run.
Pihl hit a solo homer over the center field fence in the top of the seventh with one out, but DePaul's next two batters would both get out to end the game.
DePaul and Villanova return to the field for game two Saturday afternoon.
