Blue Demons Drop NCAA Opener to Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. - The Blue Demons ran into one of the most formidable women's tennis teams in the country Friday in their NCAA tournament opener.
No. 11 Auburn won the doubles matches and followed with three singles wins in a 4-0 victory over DePaul.
Coach Mark Ardizzone's team finished the season with a record of 17-8 while Auburn (24-10) advances to Saturday's second round against Florida State.
In singles competition, Keisha Clousing dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision at the No. 2 slot to Auburn's Andie Dikosavljevic who is ranked No. 29 in the nation.
At No. 3 singles, Patricia Lancranjan came up short 6-3, 6-3 to Auburn's No. 115-ranked Taylor Russo. In the No. 4 spot, Ana Vladutu fell 6-2, 6-1 to Auburn's Georgie Axon.
In doubles competition, the tandem of Aspasia Avgeri and Yuliya Shupenia lost 6-1 to Auburn's Alizee Michaud and Taylor Russo, the nation's No. 14 doubles team.
Also in doubles, the Blue Demon duo of Vladutu and Florence Abbot lost 6-3 to Caroline Turner and Axon.
This was DePaul's third NCAA tournament appearance in the last four years.
