Kintyhtt Finishes Day One at NCAA Prelim

AUSTIN, Texas - DePaul track & field thrower Trevor Kintyhtt completed his first day at the NCAA West Preliminary in the hammer throw Thursday in Austin, Texas.
Throwing fourth in his flight, the senior opened the event with a toss of 57.73 meters. He ranked 18th out of 32 throwers after the first round of throws.
Kintyhtt improved his distance and place on his second attempt with a toss of 60.24 meters to move up one spot to 17th out of the 32 competitors.
On his third and final attempt, the Akron, Ohio native reached his best mark of the day at 62.17 meters. That attempt was .44 meters off his personal best that was set at this year's BIG EAST Outdoor Championship and put him in a position to qualify.
The DePaul thrower was knocked out of a qualifying position when the third and final flight was completed and finished 27th overall out of 47 competitors. Gleb Dudarev of Kansas, the top student-athlete coming into the event, won with a mark of 72.66 meters.
Kintyhtt has one more opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Championship on Saturday in the men's discus throw. The discus is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT.
