CHICAGO - In a thrilling four-set rally, the Blue Demons took down UIC, 3-1 (23-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-23). The UIC Invitational finale showcased the crosstown rivals on Saturday night in the Flames Athletic Center. Coach Nadia Edwards and the DePaul volleyball team were victorious in both matches in the UIC Invitational against Idaho, 3-1 and UIC, 3-1. This makes DePaul 2-0 in the invitational and 2-3 in the regular season.
Coach Edwards said, "It was nice to see the Chicago volleyball community come out to support both teams tonight. The cross town rivalry really drew an awesome crowd. It was also a great opportunity for younger players to be able watch volleyball being played at a high level in their own back yard and get a preview of what is to come from DePaul Volleyball this season."
DePaul started the match number 1 with the first point to begin the momentum. Key players include Brittany Maxwell and Claire Anderson both surpassing two career bests from the 2016 season. Maxwell racked up 48 attacks and six digs leading with a total 20.5 match points. Anderson recorded 14 kills and 10 digs for the match rounding out with 14.5 points. Caitlyn Coffey helped with a total 17.5 points.
"We are extremely proud of our young women and the performance they put together tonight. We have definitely experienced some growth from last weekend. Idaho and UIC challenged us and we found ourselves in similar situations as the previous weekend. Tonight especially, our group was able to be resilient, keep their composure in tight situations and play to our strengths. We are looking forward to taking that momentum into this upcoming weekend for our DePaul Invitational," said Coach Edwards.
The Blue Demons rallied the last three sets (25-11, 25-22, 25-23) to bring home the Chicago win.
