DePaul Places Seventh at Musketeers Classic

Thomas leads Blue Demons overall while McCarthy posts best round
CINCINNATI, Ohio – Bobby Thomas led the DePaul golf team to a seventh-place finish as the Blue Demons played their final tournament of the fall schedule. Thomas finished in a tie for 23rd while Joe McCarthy recorded a 69 (-2) for the top DePaul round of the tournament.
The delayed second round concluded Tuesday morning with Thomas posting a 76 (+5) followed by a third round score of 74 (+3). His tournament total of 221 (+8) put him in a four-way tie for 23rd place and his first top 25 finish of the season.
McCarthy was just one of five players to post a sub-70 score in the third round with his score of 69. He turned in a tournament score of 223 (+10) with a second round score of 75 (+4) to finish in a group in 32nd place.
Charlie Spencer-White and Campbell Wolf finished tied for 36th and 41st after Spencer-White posted a total score of 224 (+11) and Wolf finished at 225 (+12). Spencer-White recorded back-to-back rounds of 74 (+3) in the second and third round while Wolf carded scores of 75 (+4) and 77 (+6).
Carlo Antonio Gatmaytan turned in the best round of his collegiate career with a 71 (E) in the third round that followed an 80 (+9) in the second round. His 54-hole total of 227 (+14) put him in a tie for 49th place. Grant Boyson played as an individual at the event with a score of 244 (+31) after second and third rounds of 80 (+9) and 82 (+11).
Ohio State won the team title with a score of 851 (-1) to finish as the only team below par. Ball State was second at 869 (+17) while the Blue Demons were seventh with a score of 884 (+32). Ohio State's Will Grimmer recorded a winning score of 202 (-11).
DePaul's final event of the fall schedule is next Monday when the Blue Demons face off with Loyola-Chicago in match play. The two teams play at Evanston Country Club for the second straight year after DePaul defeated Loyola, 13-11, a year ago.
