Season's First Road Trip Takes DePaul to Notre Dame

Blue Demons and Irish meet for 106th time on Saturday at Purcell Pavilion
CHICAGO - DePaul hits the road for the first time this season with a Saturday matinee at Notre Dame. The Blue Demons are playing for the first time since an overtime win against Penn State on Nov. 15 and are looking to start the season at 4-0. DePaul opened the 2018-19 season and the second year of the Wintrust Arena era with three wins over Bethune-Cookman (80-58), Morgan State (91-63) and Penn State (72-70, OT). The Blue Demons and Fighting Irish are scheduled for a Noon ET start at Purcell Pavilion.
Saturday's game will be televised on ACC Network Extra which is available at WatchESPN.com or the WatchESPN app. Tony Simeone (play-by-play), Mike Lightfoot (analyst) and Holden Perrelli (reporter) are handling the television duties. DePaul head coach Dave Leitao is in his seventh season at DePaul and his fourth since returning to the program after leading the Blue Demons three postseasons in three years from 2002-05. Overall, the 2018-19 campaign is Leitao's 13th as a head coach at the collegiate level. Notre Dame is led by Mike Brey who is in his 19th season leading the Irish.

A year ago, DePaul hosted Notre Dame to open Wintrust Arena and the visitors spoiled the opening by a score of 72-58. Notre Dame's Bonzie Colson is credited with the first point scored by any player at Wintrust Arena with a free throw 31 seconds into the game while Devin Gage tallied the first points for a DePaul player on a jumper with 17:15 left in the first half.

Strus Named BIG EAST Player of the Week: DePaul senior guard Max Strus was recognized by the conference office on Nov. 19 with BIG EAST Player of the Week honors. Strus led DePaul to a pair of wins over Morgan State and Penn State while averaging 23.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He shot .457 (16-35) overall and .421 (8-19) from three-point range while going 6-for-8 from the free throw line. The senior is the first BIG EAST Player of the Week for DePaul since Draelon Burns in December 2007.
Strus opened the week with 25 points and nine rebounds against Morgan State while going 5-of-8 from behind the arc and adding three assists and a blocked shot. He followed that effort with 21 points and nine rebounds against Penn State. He played 43 minutes in the overtime win over the Nittany Lions and added two assists and a steal while scoring 15 of his 21 points after halftime.
