CHICAGO - DePaul athletics announced today the extension of women's soccer head coach Erin Chastain's contract through the 2023 season. Over her 12 seasons at DePaul she has led the program to two NCAA Tournament appearances, two BIG EAST regular-season championships, a BIG EAST Tournament title and seven appearances in the BIG EAST Tournament.
"I am very grateful to Jean Lenti Ponsetto, Jill Hollembeak and the University for believing in me and our women's soccer program," said Chastain. "I absolutely love our team, staff and program."
Chastain recorded her 100th career coaching win on Oct. 26, 2017 with a 1-0 victory over St. John's and she has led the Blue Demons to a 66-30-23 record in the last six seasons. The 2014 squad turned in the best season in program history with a 16-1-4 overall record that saw a 7-0-2 mark in the BIG EAST, the BIG EAST regular-season championship, BIG EAST Tournament championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament.
"Coach Chastain has proven year in and year out to be a shining star among Division 1 women's soccer coaches as is evidenced by the meteoric rise of our DePaul program over the past 10 years," said athletics director Jean Lenti Ponsetto. "Her teams are always well prepared and compete with a fierce determination in one of the nation's toughest conferences, the BIG EAST. DePaul is thrilled to extend Erin's contract as we look forward to her leading our program to many more academic and athletic successes."
Chastain took her team to the BIG EAST Semifinals in 2016 and finished out the season with an impressive 10-6-3 record. That team was No. 11 in the nation in scoring offense and No. 16 in goals and points per game. In 2018, Chastain's program had four student-athletes named to All-BIG EAST Teams with Franny Cerny earning first team honors, Adrian Walker on the second team and Ellie Mink and Mollie Eriksson on the All-Freshman Team.
"From our alums to our current players to our recruited student-athletes, we get the opportunity to work with outstanding young women on a daily basis," Chastain said. "The student-athlete experience that our young women are a part of at DePaul is unique and special, especially in this climate of collegiate athletics. I look forward to striving to compete for more conference championships and more incredible moments for this program on and off the field."
The women's soccer program is known to be successful both on and off the field. The team won the 2017 United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, marking the 10th consecutive year to do so and 12th overall award for the Blue Demons.
Most recently, Morgan Turner was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Second Team with a 3.98 GPA. Previously, Elizabeth Endy was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2017 while Alexa Ben was named to the 2017 Senior CLASS First Team and earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches First Team All-North/Central region. Last season, 21 out of 24 members of the team were named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
