Five in Double Figures Lead DePaul Past Chicago State

Blue Demons reach century mark for first time at Wintrust Arena
CHICAGO – DePaul cruised to a 104-70 win over Chicago State on Wednesday night at Wintrust Arena as the Blue Demons dominated the Cougars after opening up a 19-point halftime lead. Max Strus led all game scorers with a season-high 27 points while Eli Cain added a 17-point, 11-assist double-double.
All five DePaul (6-2) starters finished in double-digits for scoring as 10 different Blue Demons netted at least two points.
The Blue Demons assisted 24 of their 35 made field goals while forcing the Cougars to turn the ball over 19 times for 28 DePaul points off turnovers. DePaul held Chicago State to .377 (23-61) shooting in the game, while the Blue Demons boasted .547 (35-64) shooting percentage on the evening.
A pair of three-pointers from Jalen Coleman-Lands helped the Blue Demons to an early 11-8 lead before a put back layup by Strus increased the advantage to 21-16. With eight minutes to go before the break, DePaul opened up its first double-digit lead of the game, 26-16, as seven different Blue Demons scored in the early going.
DePaul held a 49-30 lead at halftime and the Blue Demons didn't let up to start the second half by pushing the lead to 24 points with 16:36 to go.
From that point on, the result was never in question. Over the final 15 minutes, the Cougars would not get closer than 20 points as the Blue Demons worked in most of their bench over the final five minutes.
Strus added eight rebounds to his 27 points followed by Cain's double-double. Coleman-Lands finished with 13 points and Femi Olujobi tallied 12 points. Devin Gage turned in a solid game with 10 points, six rebounds and five assists while Jaylen Butz totaled nine points and six boards off the bench.
Chicago State (3-9) was led by Delshon Strickland with 25 points and Travon Bell added 14 off the bench.
DePaul faces a short turnaround with a Friday night game against UIC. The Blue Demons and Flames are scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Wintrust Arena on FS1 and WSCR 670 The Score.
