MINNEAPOLIS - You've got to give these shorthanded Blue Demons credit. No matter the adversity, they find a way to succeed.
Trailing 2-0 after forfeiting a doubles match and a singles match, DePaul battled back for a thrilling 4-3 victory over Marshall Sunday at the Courtside Classic.
It was quite a comeback story. Milica Tesic began the turnaround with her singles victory over Brooke Lashway at No. 5. Patricia Lancranjan followed up with a singles win over Maddie Silver.
Tied 2-2, Aspasia Avgeri took the Baseline Tennis Center court and put the Blue Demons in the lead knocking off the Thundering Herd's Marija Bogicevic.
Marshall's Anna Smith kept the outcome in suspense downing DePaul's Marija Jovicic.
It all came down to Blue Demons No. 1 singles player Keisha Clousing against Marshall's best, Stephanie Smith. Clousing came through with a dramatic 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) win to clinch the match for coach Mark Ardizzone's program.
That improved DePaul to 3-1 on the dual-match season. Next up is a home match against Western Michigan at 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
