
DePaul Rallies for 6-3 win against Grand Canyon

FULLERTON, Calif. - The DePaul softball team snapped its four-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon as the Blue Demons downed Grand Canyon 6-3 in game three of the Easton Invitational.
DePaul (17-9) took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI-single by shortstop Maranda Gutierrez. An inning later the Blue Demons would push their lead to 2-0 with a bases-loaded walk to third baseman Alysia Rodriguez.
Grand Canyon (17-16) tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third, capitalizing on an RBI-single by Sierra Smith and a throwing error by DePaul's Jessica Cothern on a steal attempt at second.
Two innings later, the Blue Demons would regain the 3-2 advantage as designated player Morgan Greenwood rocketed a solo home run over the left-center field fence.
The Lopes battled back in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 3-3. Laynee Gomez led off the inning with a double to left-center and then came around to score the tying run on an RBI-double by Niki Gonzalez.
Once again, the Blue Demons rallied in the top of the seventh to pull out the 6-3 victory. Gutierrez led off the inning with a single to right and then scored the go-ahead run on an RBI-double by Rodriguez. Four pitches later, Kate Polucha padded the Blue Demons' lead with a two-run single to right to widen the gap to 6-3.
Senior Kennedy Garcia (2-2), who picked up the win, provided DePaul with six innings of work in the victory. The right-hander allowed three runs, two earned, on nine hits while striking out four Lopes. Freshman Pat Moore came on in the seventh to close out the DePaul victory, picking up her first collegiate save in the process.
The Blue Demons now have a quick turnaround as they will battle CSUN at 5:30 p.m. Live action against the Matadors will be streamed lived on FloSoftball.
