Women's Tennis Advances to BIG EAST Semifinals

CAYCE, S.C. ââ'¬" No. 2 seed DePaul advanced onto the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship semifinals after a 4-1 victory over No. 7 Creighton on Friday.
The Blue Demons (9-10) will face No. 3 Marquette (12-9) at 9 a.m. (ET) Saturday at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center.
Marquette blanked No. 6 Villanova 4-0 in its BIG EAST quarterfinal.
DePaul fell behind 1-0 when Creighton (15-8) won two of the three doubles matches in securing the doubles point.
That's when coach Mark Ardizzone's team came roaring back with four consecutive singles wins in straight sets.
At No. 2, Patricia Lancranjan improved to 15-5 on the season with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Michaela Henne. The senior from Romania has won 10 of her last 11 matches.
Aspasia Avgeri posted her fourth-straight win 6-1, 6-0 over Erin Epperson at No. 3 singles. She has won nine of her last 11.
Marija Jovicic was nearly perfect in a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Darby Rosette at No. 4. Milica Tesic duplicated Jovicic's performance with a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Laura Higueras at No. 6.
Defending champion DePaul is two wins away from a repeat title and its fourth BIG EAST crown in the last five years.
