Cameron and New Zealand Set to Start FIBA U18 Asian Championship

DePaul freshman on international stage with New Zealand
CHICAGO – DePaul freshman guard Flynn Cameron and New Zealand open group play on Sunday afternoon local time in Thailand to start the FIBA U18 Asian Championship. The Junior Tall Blacks will play in Thailand from Aug. 5-11.
The Junior Tall Blacks are in Group C with Australia, Bahrain and Thailand. In order to return to the U19 World Cup, New Zealand must finish in the top four of the Asian Championship. New Zealand opens group play on Aug. 5 against Bahrain before playing Thailand on Monday, Aug. 6. Australia and New Zealand face off on Tuesday, Aug. 7 and bracket play begins on Aug. 8.
All games can be seen live on YouTube with the FIBA broadcast. Thailand is 12 hours ahead of the United States' central time zone so the first game can seen starting at 12:45 a.m. on Sunday. Live stats will also be available.
Cameron is no stranger to the international stage of FIBA events as he competed in tournaments for New Zealand in 2016 and 2017. At the 2016 FIBA U18 Oceania Championships, Cameron averaged 7.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game over four contests. He followed that experience with averages of 4.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in seven games at the 2017 FIBA U19 World Cup.
He joined the DePaul program in December 2018 and didn't play in any games during the 2017-18 season for the Blue Demons. Cameron will have four seasons of eligibility starting with the upcoming 2018-19 campaign.
Cameron is the second DePaul player with international experience this summer along with Eli Cain. Cain won a gold medal recently in Brazil while playing for USA Team at the FISU America Games.
