Caroine Kurdej and Charlie McIntyre have led the cross country teams in two of three meets

NOTRE DAME, IND. – The DePaul cross country team placed eighth on the men's side with a score of 179, improving their score by over 20 points from last season, and ninth on the women's side with a score of 222 on Friday afternoon. The Blue Demons earned multiple top-50 finishes at the 40^th annual National Catholic Invitational, one of the most competitive meets in the country.

Competing against 10 Division I institutions, including Notre Dame, Creighton and Xavier, senior Caroline Kurdej led the Blue Demons with a time of 18:44.88 in the championship 5K. Kurdej trimmed two minutes off her time from the same competition last year to post a personal best on the course. Courtney Pickering edged out St. Mary's Ellen Burbank to take 48^th place with a time of 19:17.45. Rounding out the point totals with 46, 52 and 62, respectively, were newcomers Maret Elgren (19:39.44), Emma Stephens (19:51.10) and Ericka Burgess (20:16.99).

Running in a pack of 228 student-athletes from across the country, sophomore Charlie McIntyre crossed the line with a time of 26:25.20 immediately followed by senior Jeremy Lozano who clocked a 26:25.32 finish in the championship 5-mile competition. McIntyre also trimmed his time from the same competition last year by two minutes to post his personal best on the course. Noah Deck (26:30.45), Henry Harper (26:34.75) and Dominic Bruce (27:32.01) finished the course next for the Blue Demons adding to the point total. The men's top finishers earned 28, 29, 31, 32 and 59 points, respectively.

Up Next
After a week off, the Blue Demons men's and women's cross country teams will stay in Chicago to compete in the 41^st Loyola Lakefront Invite. The two-day event will take place on Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29.
