The Blue Demons fell in three sets to the Huskies in home-opener at McGrath-Phillips
CHICAGO – In DePaul's home-opening match and part of the DePaul Invitational, the Blue Demons fell to UConn in three sets (23-25, 10-25, 25-17).
"Congratulations to UConn for a hard fought battle," said head coach Marie Zidek. "In the end, we just couldn't string together enough momentum and points over the span of the match.
"We had a lot of bright spots and elite plays but kept getting in our own way with unforced errors.
"As a unit, we need to continue to learn how to play under pressure and we look forward to the challenge FAU and Purdue Fort Wayne will bring tomorrow."
Early in the first set, DePaul fell behind 5-0 and but stayed resilient. DPU continued to stray behind until later on when an Emma Price kill brought DPU within two to make it 22-20 in favor of Connecticut. Regardless of some strong attempts from the Blue Demons, UConn took the first set 25-23.
DePaul fell 25-10 in the second set.
In the third stanza, DePaul would keep the difference slim until a three-point run from UConn put the Huskies up 14-8. From there, UConn inched away to take the set 25-17.
DePaul will play in two more matches tomorrow, one against Florida Atlantic at 10 a.m. and one against Purdue Fort Wayne at 7 p.m. to wrap up the invitational.
