Blue Demons Take Care of St. John's

Four in double figures lead DePaul to second straight BIG EAST win
QUEENS, N.Y. – The inside duo of Femi Olujobi and Paul Reed combined for 45 points and 18 rebounds as St. John's had no answer in the paint all night and DePaul left Carnesecca Arena with a 79-71 win over the No. 24/23 Red Storm. Max Strus added a double-double as DePaul won its second straight BIG EAST game.
Olujobi started quickly scoring the first four points of the game as DePaul took an early lead. Midway through the first half, the Blue Demons led by as many as seven before St. John's chipped away and took a brief lead at 27-26 with just over three minutes left until intermission.
The lead was short lived as Eli Cain answered immediately with his second three-pointer of the night and the Blue Demons took over once again. In the final minute of the half, St. John's beat the shot clock with a long three-pointer and the score stood at 31-30 in favor of DePaul after 20 minutes of action.
Overall DePaul led for nearly 38 of the 40 minutes and built a 12-point lead with 3:39 left in the game. St. John's (14-3, 2-3 BIG EAST) tied the score twice early in the second half, but a three-point play for Olubjobi pushed DePaul ahead, 42-39, and the Blue Demons would hold the advantage over the final 14 minutes of the game.
Olujobi totaled 27 points and eight rebounds while Reed recorded his first double-double with a career-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. Strus posted his second double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 boards while Eli Cain finished with 14 points.
DePaul (10-5, 2-2 BIG EAST) outrebounded St. John's by a 43-34 margin and held the Red Storm to just 5-of-19 shooting from three-point range. L.J. Figueroa led St. John's with 23 points and Justin Simon scored 20 points with seven assists.
The Blue Demons return to Winturst Arena on Wednesday night to take on the Butler Bulldogs. Start time is 7:30 p.m. on FS1 and WIND (560 AM).
