DePaul is victorious in four of the last five meetings against Georgetown
CHICAGO – The Blue Demons got back to their winning ways on Saturday night with a dominating rout of Georgetown, 6-1.
In their first meeting since last season's BIG EAST semifinal showdown, DePaul came out victorious on the courts of the Lakeshore Sport and Fitness Center.
Coach Matt Brothers' band of brothers got off to a quick start in doubles action with Boris Spanjaard and Tripp Tuff at No. 1 dropping Rohan Kamdar and Connor Lee 6-3, while Luuk Wassenaar and Conor O'Meara clinched the 1-0 advantage for the Blue Demons in convincing fashion over Will Sharton and Mark Militzer of Georgetown, 6-2.
Early singles victories by Vito Tonejc, Spanjaard, and Tripp Tuff forged the Blue Demon lead to 4-0 and put the match out of reach for the Hoyas. V. Tonejc at No. 2 singles toppled Lee 6-3, 6-2, while Spanjaard at No. 1 took down Kamdar 6-4, 6-2. Tuff turned in a gutsy three set win over Michael Chen, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (3) at the No. 3 position.
Fran Tonjec and Luuk Wassenaar joined in on the victorious occasion with straight set wins over Georgetown's Luke Ross and Mark Militzer, respectively.
DePaul (2-2, 1-0 BIG EAST) is back in action on Feb. 1 as the Blue Demons welcome Creighton.
