Blue Demons will tangle with BIG EAST rival Creighton on Friday and UIC on Saturday
CHICAGO – DePaul men's tennis will look to continue building its BIG EAST resume with a conference match Friday night at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
The Blue Demons (2-2, 1-0) will welcome Creighton to Lincoln Park for a showdown set for 6:15 p.m.
Less than 24 hours later, coach Matt Brothers and his team will take on Illinois-Chicago in a nonconference match scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.
DePaul is coming off a convincing 6-1 triumph over Georgetown last Saturday that successfully jump-started the conference season.
Early in the dual-match season, freshman Vito Tonejc has made an immediate impact, leading the team with a 3-1 singles record. His brother Fran Tonejc and No. 1 singles player Boris Spanjaard are both 2-2 while Christopher Casati is 1-1.
The Spanjaard/Tripp Tuff combo is 1-0 in doubles play while Fran Tonejc/Casati and Conor O'Meara/Luuk Wassenaar are both 1-1.
This will be Creighton's BIG EAST opener after going 1-2 to start the dual season. The Bluejays lost to No. 21 Oklahoma State 7-0 and 4-0 to No. 13 Oklahoma before defeating Doane 7-0.
UIC will be looking for its first win after losing to Western Michigan twice and Marquette---all by identical 7-0 scores. The Flames are a combined 0-18 in singles play and 0-8 in doubles.
