Elgren, Harper & Deck Pace Blue Demons at Championship Meet

Maret Elgren leads women’s team for the first time, Harper & Deck tie for first among men
KENOSHA, Wis. – The DePaul men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up league competition early Saturday afternoon after competing on a wet, snowy course. The men competed in the 8K competition with the women racing in the 6K at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships hosted by Marquette at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course.

Improving on its team finish last year, the DePaul men's squad placed sixth overall and were led by seniors Henry Harper and Noah Deck who both clocked a time of 27:13.1 in the 8,000-meter competition. Not far behind were Shane Knanishu (27:35.3), Ryan Bonfiglio (27:41.2) and Dominic Bruce (27:50.5) to round out the score total. The spread of 0:37.4 was one of the tightest finishes the squad has seen this season. The men edged out Xavier, Creighton and Seton Hall.

In the women's 6,000-meter race, Maret Elgren led the team for the first time this season with a time of 23:51.1. Elgren was closely followed by Alexa Havon (24:01.5), Margaret Hastings (24:33.9), Courtney Pickering (24:34.7) and Olivia Borowiak (24:37.5). Havon, Pickering and Borowiak have all led the team in competition this season. The women ranked above St. John's and Seton Hall to take eighth overall.

In the men's competition, Villanova replaced Georgetown on the top of the leaderboard while Butler took home first place for the women's competition.
