Blue Demons Take Road Win Over Providence

CHICAGO - The Blue Demons are now 14-15 (6-11 BIG EAST) after topping Providence in four sets 3-1 (25-27, 25-23, 25-22, 25-19) in the second-to-last contest of the 2019 season Friday evening.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE » A Donna Brown kill put DePaul on board first. The score would knot 3-3 before the Blue Demons went on a 4-0 run to lead 6-3. The score would knot again at 7-7 and it was a neck-in-neck battle from there. The score met at 25-25 but the next to points went to the Friars, giving them the first set 27-25.
SET TWO » The difference remained small throughout the entirety of the second set. Providence took a five point lead at 15-10 and held the advantage until a late 5-0 run from DePaul put the Blue Demons up 21-20. The score met at 23-23 but DePaul took the next two points on a pair of Providence errors and won the second set 25-23.
SET THREE » It was once again a back and forth battle early on until DePaul went on a 6-0 run featuring two Natalie Hayward service aces and kills from Avarie Evans-Allen and Emma Price to lead 13-8. DePaul called the first timeout of the set being down 16-18. Out of the stoppage, DePaul knotted the score 18-18 forcing a Providence timeout. DePaul took the third set 25-22.
SET FOUR » The score knotted up to 13-13 but Providence called a timeout being down 13-15 after a service ace from Isabelle Banez. DePaul grew the difference to five points leading 20-15 and a service ace from Mazkenzie Savage brought DePaul to match point and a Providence error gave the Blue Demons the final set 25-19.

DePaul travels to Creighton Sunday, Nov. 24 for an 11 a.m. contest to cap off the 2019 season.Â
