Blue Demons Drop BIG EAST Opener to Seton Hall

Back-and-forth contest saw 10 lead changes and eight ties
CHICAGO – A back-and-forth battle between DePaul and Seton Hall opened the BIG EAST schedule Monday night with the visiting Pirates outlasting the Blue Demons by a score of 74-66. The contest featured 10 lead changes and eight ties as each team started its conference schedule.
The Blue Demons held the advantage for most of the first half as Charlie Moore's driving layup gave DePaul a 35-25 lead with just over two minutes left until intermission. Seton Hall scored six of the final eight points of the half to cut the deficit to 37-31 at the break.
Seton Hall (9-4, 1-0 BIG EAST) took a 46-45 lead on a tip-in just over five minutes into the second half. The game went back-and-forth for the rest of the night until the Pirates pulled away in the final minutes. Neither team led by more than five points until Seton Hall closed the game with nine straight points for the 74-66 final score.
Paul Reed led DePaul (12-2, 0-1 BIG EAST) with 17 points, nine rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots. Moore finished with 13 points and four assists while Jalen Coleman-Lands scored 10 points.
Myles Powell led all scorers with 27 points for Seton Hall while Myles Cale scored 16 points.
DePaul is back at Wintrust Arena on Saturday when Providence visits for a 1 p.m. game. The game can be seen on FS1 and heard on WSCR (670 AM).
