Blue Demons Welcome Bulls to Wintrust Arena

CHICAGO – The Blue Demons look for their 10th straight win to open the 2019-20 season as DePaul hosts Buffalo on Sunday. Start time at Wintrust Arena is set for 4 p.m. A win would give DePaul just the eighth start of 10-0 in program history and first since the 1986-87 season.

Sunday's game can be seen on FS1 with Mike Monaco (play-by-play) and Monica McNutt (analyst) handling the broadcast duties. The game can be seen online through the FOX Sports app and website. Buffalo is 5-3 overall this season following a 90-76 loss at Vanderbilt on Tuesday night. DePaul stands at 9-0 and is receiving votes in the national polls. The Blue Demons defeated Texas Tech, 65-60, in overtime on Wednesday night at Wintrust Arena.

Nine Straight Out of the Gate: DePaul's 9-0 record to begin the 2019-20 season is one of eight streaks of at least nine consecutive wins to open a season. It's the longest streak since the 1986-87 squad started with a 16-0 record.

The 1979-80 team won its first 25 games and with a win on Sunday, the current team becomes just the eighth team in program history to start the campaign with at least 10 straight victories.

DePaul is 9-0 to start the season for the first time since the 1986-87 campaign… that team won its first 16 games of the season.

It Could Happen: A win makes DePaul 10-0 for the first time since the start of the 1986-87 season... that team opened the schedule with 16 consecutive victories... since that season, only the 2019-20 squad has started with at least seven straight wins to the season... a potential 10-game win streak would be the longest for the Blue Demons since that 16-game run from Nov. 29-Jan. 21, 1986... a loss makes DePaul 9-1 after 10 games for the best 10-game record since the 1993-94 squad started the season by winning 10 of its first 11 games... with 10 points, Jalen Coleman-Lands registers his 40th career game in double figures (nine at DePaul/29 at Illinois)... Noting the Blue Demons: The men's basketball program is 1,476-1,024 (.590) all-time... the Blue Demons have knocked down at least one three-pointer in 815 straight games... DePaul's last game without a three was over 25 years ago on Feb. 16, 1993 against UAB at Allstate Arena... the current streak started against Notre Dame on Feb. 21, 1993... DePaul's eight games from Nov. 5-29 were the most in program history for the month of November... the Blue Demons played seven games in November 2012 and six each in November 2013 and 2006... over the last nine seasons (since start of 2010-11 season), DePaul is 19-6 against Chicagoland opponents (Chicago State, UIC, Loyola-Chicago, Northern Illinois, Northwestern)... in the last 19 seasons (since the start of 2000-01 season), the record against locals is 33-12... the Blue Demons face UIC (Dec. 14) and Northwestern (Dec. 21) this season.

Moore, Reed Among National Leaders: Entering this weekend's action, DePaul's Charlie Moore and Paul Reed are ranked among the top 30 nationally in a variety of statistical categories.

Moore is tied for seventh in total assists and tied for ninth in assists per game. Reed is tied for third in double-doubles, ranked seventh in blocked shots per game, eighth in total blocked shots, tied for 17th in total rebound and tied for 27th in rebounds per game.

November to Remember: DePaul's 8-0 record in November marked just the seventh perfect month with at least eight victories in program history. The best month in program history was a 10-0 record in January 1980.

The Blue Demons posted a 9-0 record in January 1982 and 8-0 records in February 1979, February 1981, February 1982, December 1986 and November 2019.

Extra Frames: DePaul's 65-60 overtime win over Texas Tech on Dec. 5 was moved the program to 46-45 all-time in overtime contests. The Blue Demons have won their last three overtime games following to extra time wins last season against Penn State (72-70 on Nov. 15) and USF (100-96 on April 3).

The Opponent - Buffalo Bulls: Buffalo is 5-3 overall this season... the Bulls dropped a 90-76 game at Vanderbilt on Tuesday to snap a three-game win streak... Jayvon Graves leads the team with 16.8 points per game and 20 three-pointers... others averaging in double figures include Davonta Jordan (13.5 ppg), Antwain Johnson (11.5 ppg) and Josh Mballa (10.9 ppg)... Mballa leads the team with 7.6 rebounds and Graves adds 5.6 boards per game... head coach Jim Whitesell is in his first season at Buffalo... previously, Whitesell was a long-time Chicagoland coach at Lewis and Loyola-Chicago.

Against the Mid-American Conference: DePaul is 84-36 all-time against the current configuration of Mid-American Conference programs... Northern Illinois is the most common MAC opponent with the Blue Demons holding a 27-6 advantage in the series... the Blue Demons have played Western Michigan 29 times with DePaul on top by a 21-8 advantage... Buffalo is the second of two MAC opponents on the regular-season schedule... DePaul knocked off Central Michigan on Nov. 26 by a score of 88-75.
