Golf Starts Spring Swing in Florida

CHICAGO – The DePaul golf team opens the spring schedule with the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play in Dade City, Fla. The match play event is hosted by Ball State and the Blue Demons open against the Cardinals in their first match Monday morning.

The Yestingsmeier is an eight-team event with each team playing two matches on Monday and a single match on Tuesday. DePaul faces Ball State in its first match before taking on either Drake or Miami (Ohio) in the Monday afternoon second match. The other half of the bracket consists of Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Loyola-Chicago and Ohio.

Competing for the Blue Demons are Joe McCarthy, Campbell Wolf, Charlie Spencer-White, Carlo Antonio Gatmaytan, Bobby Thomas and Grant Boyson. McCarthy leads the team with a scoring average of 72.92 and Wolf is at 73.25.

The event takes place on the South Course at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla. It features a par-72 layout over 7,153 yards. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com

Fall Recap: EKU Intercollegiate – Campbell Wolf led DePaul in his first collegiate event... Wolf (214, 4) finished in a tie for 13th... SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational – Joe McCarthy (213, E) and Campbell Wolf (214, 1) posted top 20 finishes to lead DePaul... McCarthy finished in a tie for seventh while Wolf was in a group in 11th place... as a team, the Blue Demons finished sixth among the 17 programs. Flyer Invitational – Joe McCarthy (220, +7) finished in a tie for 20th for his second top 25 finish of the season... Charlie Spencer-White (222, +9) was tied for 30th place... the Blue Demons finished 11th out of 12 teams competing. Musketeers Classic – DePaul finished seventh out of 13 teams... Bobby Thomas (221, +8) led the Blue Demons with a tie for 23rd place... Joe McCarthy (223, +10), posted a 69 (-2) in the third round and finished in a group in 32nd place. Chi-Town Showdown – DePaul dropped a match against Loyola-Chicago by a score of 15.5-11.5... Grant Boyson, Carlo Antonio Gatmaytan and Ronnie Griggs each captured a win for the Blue Demons.

Looking Ahead: DePaul's travels to Goodyear, Ariz. for the Loyola (Md.) Intercollegiate from Feb. 23-25. Other spring events include the North Alabama Spring Classic (March 25-26), the Bradley Spring Invitational (March 30-31) and Hawkeye Invitational (April 20-21) before the BIG EAST Championship from April 26-28.
