Held, Grays Spark DePaul Past Seton Hall 94-85

Held matched a season high with 28 points and Grays scored 23 on Friday night
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – DePaul came into Walsh Gym Friday night looking to sustain a recent upswing in their performances which was reminiscent of past teams that have fashioned a storied basketball tradition.
Behind Lexi Held's 28 points which tied a season high and 23 points from Mart'e Grays, DePaul came away with a 94-85 victory. Chante Stonewall added 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Held saved her best for last, scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter. The poised freshman calmly hit one big shot after another along with all six free throws. DePaul improved to 18-7 on the season and 9-4 in the BIG EAST.
Grays was lighting up Walsh Gym in the third quarter, scoring 13 points in the first six minutes. She opened the third quarter scoring the first eight points. Her rebound followed by a three-pointer gave the Blue Demons a 60-49 lead with 3:32 left in the quarter. They led 40-36 at halftime.
Held scored four in a row to provide a 64-54 lead towards the end of the quarter. Seton Hall closed it out with an 8-2 run and it was 66-60 going into the fourth quarter.
The Pirates scored the first four points of the fourth quarter and it looked like a tight finish was coming up. Rebekah Dahlman's three put DePaul ahead 69-64 when Seton Hall cut the lead to 69-68 at the media timeout.
Grays scored on a three-point play and Held hit two clutch shots for an 80-72 lead with 3:42 left in the game. Held hit another critical three-pointer and it was 83-72. She followed up with a pair of foul shots.
Grays was once again effective in the paint, scoring two early baskets as the Blue Demons trailed 10-8 at the first quarter media timeout.
Seton Hall's three-point shooting provided a 19-14 lead after the first quarter. Sonya Morris hit the lone three for DePaul which went 1-for-6 from behind the arc in the first 10 minutes.
Grays picked up her second foul and was forced to sit the end of the first quarter and the entire second quarter. Held scored the first five points of the second quarter including a pretty cross-over move that resulted in a three-point play.
Hitting 4-of-5 shots, the Blue Demons gained some momentum and built a 24-19 lead at the second quarter media timeout. The Pirates came within 27-26 when Millender ignited an 8-0 run for a 35-26 advantage.
It was 35-28 when Stonewall scored on a nice move past two Seton Hall defenders and Held hit a big three-pointer to make it 40-28.
The home team closed out the second quarter with eight-straight including a buzzer-beating three and it was 40-36 at halftime.
Stonewall, Millender, Held and Morris combined for 31 of their team's points and Kelly Campbell had six rebounds at the break.
The Blue Demons' two-game eastern road swing concludes on Sunday with a BIG EAST matchup against St. John's at Madison Square Garden that will tip at noon. It is being televised on FS2.
