Blue Demons shooting to extend seven-game winning streak against Creighton Sunday on FS2
OMAHA, Neb. – Welcome to a Sunday showdown of the two hottest teams in the BIG EAST when No. 24 DePaul and Creighton collide at Sokol Arena.
The final conference game for both teams will be televised on FS2 which is available in the Chicago area at the following platforms: Comcast Xfinity subscribers should access foxsportsgo.com to view the game. For DIRECTV, it's channel 618. On RCN, it's channel 383 and on AT&T U-verse, it's channel 651.
The Blue Demons (22-7, 13-4) ride into town on a seven-game winning streak with its last setback coming four weeks ago to Marquette on Super Bowl Sunday.
Creighton (14-14, 8-9) has the BIG EAST's second-longest winning streak after upsetting No. 13/12 Marquette 71-65 Friday night for its third in a row. That was the highest-ranked team the Bluejays have taken down in program history.
During the winning streak, leading scorer on the season Mart'e Grays has averaged 17 points a game and second-leading scorer Chante Stonewall has scored 13.6 a game.
Ashton Millender has been heating up, and in her last three games, the senior guard is averaging 15 points per game while shooting nearly 60 percent from the field including a sizzling 11-of-22 from three-point range.
In addition, Kelly Campbell is once again putting up healthy numbers in rebounds, assists and steals while orchestrating a DePaul attack that has nine wins in its last 10 games.
The Blue Demons have begun showing signs of developing an offensive rhythm and consistency averaging 81 points a game during the streak and outscoring opponents by an average of nearly 15 points per game.
They will need all that plus timely contributions from an emerging Tanita Allen, Rebekah Dahlman, Dee Bekelja and freshmen Lexi Held, Maya Stovall and Sonya Morris against a Creighton team that is playing its best basketball heading into next weekend's BIG EAST tournament at Wintrust Arena.
This is an even better version of the Bluejays bunch that came into McGrath-Phillips Arena back on Dec. 29 and pulled off an 85-82 upset in the BIG EAST opener.
Just like that game last December, Creighton started fast against Marquette and outscored the Golden Eagles 26-13 in the first quarter. The Bluejays maintained a comfortable lead and went into the fourth quarter leading by 13. A late rush by Marquette came up short.
The player to watch on Creighton is Audrey Faber, the BIG EAST's third-leading scorer who is averaging nearly 17 points a game and leads the league in blocked shots with 51.
Supporting Faber are Jalyn Agnew averaging 11.3 points and a team-leading 6.5 rebounds a game along with Temi Carda at 10 points a game.
