Blue Demons clinch sixth win in a row at home
CHICAGO -- The DePaul men's tennis team came out on a mission Friday night on the courts of Lakeshore Sport and Fitness.
The Blue Demons posted a 6-1 decision over the visiting Villanova Wildcats to extend their home win streak to six matches.
On the doubles side, brothers Vito Tonejc and Fran Tonejc got DePaul off to a fast start with a 6-2 win in the No. 2 spot over Stefan Suarez and Tommy Mulflur. At No. 3, Conor O'Meara and Luuk Wassenaar extended their win streak to four while clinching the doubles point for the Blue Demons with a 6-2 win over Charlie Schuls and Dylan Flanagan.
In singles action, Vito Tonejc continued his dominant play at No. 1 for the fifth match in a row with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Suarez.
Christopher Casati put the Blue Demons up 3-1 on the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Schuls at the No. 5 position.
Tamas Zador clinched his first win of the dual season at No. 6 with a dominant 6-0, 6-3 decision over Mulflur.
At No. 3, Wassenaar took down Thomas Dodson with a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0(6) performance to give DePaul the 5-1 edge.
Fran Tonejc closed out the match for DePaul at No. 4 with a come from behind victory over Dylan Flanagan, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (5).
With tonight's victory, DePaul improves to 10-7 on the season and 4-1 in BIG EAST action. Up next, the Blue Demons will travel to Virginia for a three match stint with meetings against Richmond, Old Dominion, and William and Mary.
