
Men's Tennis Heads to Virginia for Spring Break

Blue Demons open three-match trip against Richmond on Tuesday
CHICAGO – The DePaul men's tennis players will spend their spring break in Virginia hoping to serve up a trio of nonconference wins.
On Tuesday, the Blue Demons will bring their 10-7 dual-match record onto the Westhampton Courts to take on the Richmond Spiders.
Two days later, coach Matt Brothers and his band of student-athletes will compete against Old Dominion in Norfolk at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
The trip concludes on Saturday with a match in Williamsburg against William and Mary at the Millie West Tennis Facility.
Freshman Vito Tonejc leads the Blue Demons with a dual singles record of 13-3. Twice honored as BIG EAST Athlete of the Week, Tonejc will be shooting for his sixth consecutive singles victory beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
His older brother Fran is 10-6 in the dual season while Chris Casati is 8-5 and Luuk Wassenaar 8-6. All three of the Blue Demons will be looking for their third win in a row.
In doubles, the tandem of Wassenaar and Conor O'Meara leads the way for the Lincoln Park team with a sparkling 10-2 record. They will be aiming to extend their winning streak to five. The Tonejc brothers are 6-6 in doubles play.
DePaul has won three of its last four matches including triumphs over BIG EAST adversaries Villanova and Xavier. The Blue Demons are 4-1 in BIG EAST play with two conference matches remaining.
Richmond has built a 10-4 record in dual play, winning seven of its last nine matches. The Spiders have knocked off knocked off Dayton and Xavier in that stretch.
Old Dominion has navigated its way through a challenging schedule going 7-7 but losing four of the last five matches. The Monarchs have fallen to No. 26 Brigham Young, No. 38 LSU, Utah and Tulane.
William and Mary began the dual-match season with 11 consecutive losses and are 2-12 going into the week.
