Two Blue Demons set School Records, Numerous Personal Bests
CARBONDALE, Ill. — It was a good day for the Blue Demons as they were able to take advantage of one of the first days of warm weather by setting school and personal records at the Bill Cornell Spring Invitational hosted by SIU. The marks in the women's outdoor high jump and the women's hammer throw set by Caroline Muller and Jade Gates were good for new school records.
The day after Chris Cadet set a new personal best in the triple jump with an impressive 14.94 meters, DePaul was hungry for more podium finish. His second-place success carried over to the long jump, setting a new personal record 6.86 meters, which was good for bronze.
Also seeing success among the jumpers was senior Caroline Muller. The senior already holds the school record for the indoor high jump, but her name will also go down in the books for the outdoor high jump. Her 1.72-meter mark was good for gold as she embarks on her capstone campaign.
Sophomore standout Jade Gates had a podium finish in the women's hammer throw earning bronze in the event. The St. Louis native's 56.95-meter throw earned her a spot at the top of the program history list as she set a new record. She bested her own mark by over 2.5 meters.
On the men's side, fellow thrower Ben Litwin also had a new personal record in the men's hammer throw. His 48.23 mark ranked as one of the top competitors, as the event saw high-level competition from Valparaiso, SIU, Illinois, SIUE and Western Illinois.
On the track, Kolani Cole ran his first ever sub-50 400-meter dash and set a huge personal best 49.98 seconds to edge out Justin Montalo from Western Illinois for one of the top spots.
