
DePaul Drops Season Finale at Butler

Blue Demons look to bounce back at BIG EAST Championship next weekend
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The DePaul men's tennis team fought to the very end on Sunday afternoon but fell just short to Butler in a back-and-forth affair on the courts of the Butler Bubble.
With the 4-3 victory, Butler moved to 20-6 overall and 4-1 in BIG EAST action, while DePaul fell to 10-13 this spring and 4-3 in conference action.
The Blue Demons clinched the doubles point to take an early 1-0 advantage. Vito Tonejc and Fran Tonejc claimed a 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot, while the duo of Luuk Wassenaar and Conor O'Meara secured the point for DePaul with a 6-3 victory at the No. 3 position.
In singles action, Christopher Casati got the Blue Demons rolling early with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 to put DePaul ahead 2-0.
Freshman Vito Tonejc continued his stellar spring campaign with a 6-2, 7-6 (4) win at No. 1 to improve to 6-1 in BIG EAST play and 16-5 overall.
After Butler clinched wins at No. 3, No. 2, and No. 6 all eyes turned to court 5 with the deciding match on the line.
Fran Tonejc gave it all he had before falling to Butler's Adrian Mag 4-6, 6-1, 1-6 at the No. 5 position.
DePaul returns to the courts for the 2019 BIG EAST Championship in Cayce, South Carolina. Play will begin on Friday at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.
