Despite the wind, 14 personal- or season-bests were set at annual home meet

CHICAGO – Celebrations were abundant at the DePaul Invitational that brought many improved performances and recognition of the 22 seniors on the squad. Family, friends and alumni of the program came out to Lane Stadium despite the wind to honor one of the most accomplished graduating classes in program history.

The track & field squad garnered four BIG EAST weekly accolades, 26 appointments to the All-Conference Teams and 25 BIG EAST Individual Championships. On top of those accomplishments, Kyle Decker (60-meter hurdles, indoor), Alexia Brooks (60-meter hurdles, indoor; 100-meter hurdles, outdoor), Caroline Muller (high jump, indoor & outdoor), Jade Nolan (triple jump, indoor & outdoor), Sydnee Matthew (pentathlon, indoor) and Emily Eller (shot put, outdoor) all hold the new school records in their events.

On the women's side, five Blue Demons set season- or personal-best marks in the competition today. Setting the new high marks on the track were Rutendo Chimbaru (57.12) and Laura Edwards (57.22) in the 400-meter dash.

In the field, Rebecca Chounaird threw a 35.70-meter PR in the discus. The junior has improved in every throw this season to lead up to the new personal best. Emily Eller set new season-best marks in both the discus (38.15m) and in the shot put (14.74m) competitions. Sophomore standout Jade Gates set a new personal best in the hammer throw hitting an impressive mark of 57.78 meters.

For the men, both the throwers and jumpers saw nine new personal- or season-best distances. Newcomer Kyle Casper also set a 52.91 PR in the 400-meter dash. Joining him in the updated personal best marks were William Hauser (49.50m) in the javelin; Isaac Jimenez (43.98m), Ben Litwin (44.69m) and Alex Murray (47.57) in the discus competitions.

Setting a new season-best in the discus was senior Kyle Hedge with a 48.33-meter throw. He also set a new season-best in the shot put with a distance of 15.77 meters. In the shot put, Jimenez launched a 15.32 finish to set a season best. Fellow throwers Dominic Marshall (47.45m) and Murray (41.87m) set new outdoor bests in the discus and hammer throws, respectively.
